No Greater Love

How great the wisdom and the love

That filled the courts on high

And sent the Savior from above

To suffer, bleed, and die!

How Great the Wisdom and the Love, Hymn #195

Story Behind the Art:

This was a difficult image to compose. How do you portray this immensely important event, with the emotion it deserves, without showing the grim elements of the crucifixion? I chose to show the impact it had on two key figures in Christ’s life: Mary and John the Beloved. The shadow of the cross is designed to lead the eye to these two important people mourning their loss, which surely must have been devastating. The lightning and thunder is symbolic of our Heavenly Father’s aguish at that moment. - Simon Dewey
