My Time Is At Hand

“The Master saith, My time is at hand . . .”- Matthew 26:18

 Story Behind the Art:

Before his atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane and his crucifixion upon the cross, Jesus spoke to his disciples and said, “Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand . . .” - Matthew 26:18

After his resurrection, Jesus visited the Nephites in America and taught them great truths. As he was about to leave them to go visit His “other sheep” in other lands, he “looked round about again on the multitude, and he said unto them: Behold, my time is at hand . . .” - 3 Nephi 17:1

We have been taught that the number three has sacred symbolism. This painting is somewhat of a spiritual triptych. Although there are not three paintings side by side to make a whole, there are three concepts being represented in one painting that do make a whole. This painting represents not only Jesus’ mission in the Old World, but also in the New World. The third concept in this painting alludes to the assurance that His time is at hand once again - for a glorious second coming. - Susan Edwards
