Mark grew up in Orem, Utah where his love of fine art was instilled through watching his father bring beautiful images to life with oil paint, watercolors, and mosaic tiles. Mark graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Zoology and from Southern Utah University with a master’s degree in education. He has taught both seminary and institute for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over twenty years and loves studying the scriptures with the youth of the Church. He is currently the manager of college curriculum for Seminaries and Institutes and helps produce curriculum for teachers and students worldwide.
Mark ventured into religious painting following a summer spent in the Holy Land working on an archaeological excavation overlooking the Sea of Galilee. While excavating he was also able to spend significant time in Jerusalem and was drawn to locations that were central in the life and mission of the Savior. These sacred places which serve as both backdrop and witness to the life and mission of the Son of God, deeply affected Mark and became ingrained in both his teaching and artwork. “There is an added dimension of beauty, emotion, and gravity that infuses any location where sacred events have transpired,” Mark observes. “I hope my paintings can inspire others not only by the beauty of the scene, but because they are a reminder of events and eternal truths which they cherish.”
Mark and his beautiful and spunky wife Becky are the parents of four children, and live in Lehi, Utah.
