It is Finished

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.  - John 19:30

Story Behind the Art

To my knowledge this is the first and only time this key event has been painted. It is the precise moment when the spirit body and the physical body of Jesus Christ are being separated. The line that simulates being the cross cuts the painting in two, a spiritual and an earthly side.  The cross is actually not present.  The position of the body forms the cross. The two bodies create, each one, a triangle, one pointing heavenwards, and the other pointing to the earth with an obvious symbolism of the places each one is bound to go.
