And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. -  Acts 1:9

Story Behind the Art:

In Acts chapter 1, we read about Christ’s ascension into heaven after His resurrection. When Christ and His disciples had gone as far as Bethany, He lifted up His hands and blessed them. The Savior then rose from their midst, and they looked upon Him as He ascended until “a cloud received Him out of their sight” (verse 9). I chose to paint this scene from the perspective of the apostles, gazing steadfastly upward at their Savior for the last time. It was while the apostles stood looking upward that two personages, clothed in white, appeared by them and spoke to them saying, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven” (verse 11). - Robert T.
