About this Image:

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. - Luke 22:19

The impact of the Last Supper has reached across two millennia. For Latter-day Saints, the sacrament is a weekly reminder of the Last Supper and the Savior's subsequent sacrifice. It was with deep symbolism that Christ took the bread, broke it, and offered it to His apostles, followed by the cup, which was also blessed and passed. The sacrament is a vivid reminder that our Savior willingly allowed His body to be bruised and His lifeblood shed so that we might live. Perhaps the next time we take advantage of this wondrous gift, we will remember that there was a brief moment in history when a carpenter's hands took bread and broke it. And perhaps we will remember the other excruciating moment in which those same hands were pierced with nails as the Savior paid a debt for us that we could not pay ourselves.
