And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. - Matthew 14:19-20

Story Behind the Art:

This painting by Rose Datoc Dall depicts the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 near Bethsaida. Jesus blessed five barley loaves and two small fishes, miraculously feeding the multitude with twelve baskets of fragments to spare. (Matthew 14:14-21) "I marvel at the Lord's equation," says Rose, "which defies all natural laws. With faith, sacrifice and obedience, in principles such as paying a full tithe, we seem to not only have enough but our blessing may even seem to overflow. And likewise, the Lord may magnify our small but faithful efforts and magnify them a hundredfold." - Rose Dall
