"And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears."  - Luke 4:17-18, 20-21

Story Behind the Art:

As Jesus traveled about Galilee, teaching the gospel and preaching repentance, He one day returned to His own country, to Nazareth. And on the Sabbath, He went to the synagogue to speak and teach. “And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, He found the place where it was written,

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…

"And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

"And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." (Luke 4:17-18, 20-21)

For those who thought of Jesus as only Joseph's son, this declaration was hard to take. In anger, they rose up and thrust the Lord out of the city. May those of us who believe His words—who know Him to be the Savior of the world—never be guilty of thrusting Him out of our lives. As He kindly offers us His light and truth, may we be uplifted and edified—worthy to be called His friends. - Simon Dewey
