And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.-  Luke 7:37-38

Story Behind the Art:

This painting tells a humbling story of the gifts given and the gift received when a simple woman approached the Savior and proceeded to anoint His head with ointment and wash His feet with her tears, kiss them, and dry them with her hair. Perhaps she was caught up in mixed emotions—godly sorrow for past indiscretions, coupled with the joy that can come only from the sweet cleansing words, "Thy sins are forgiven." Indeed, it is our quiet acts of service, performed with love, that do a small part to repay our Savior for His ultimate gift. "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40) - Simon Dewey
